About Kairos Cookies
Home-baked cookies are distributed liberally to the residents during the weekend. These cookies are cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God’s overflowing love for a group of people who seldom encounter either in the course of their daily lives. We can’t explain the value of these home-baked, prayed over cookies to this ministry. Your loving sacrifice in baking the cookies will provide the “bread” that will shine in the light of God’s grace. A light that will shine throughout the facility.
Cookie Requirements
Types of Cookies: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal, Ginger, Molasses, Sugar, or any other type that does not have a topping of any kind.
Baking: All cookies must be home baked with prayer for the recipients as you bake. We cannot accept store bought or bakery made cookies.
Size: Cookies should be round between 2 inches and 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and not more than 1/2 inch thick. This uniformity helps to prevent any “Brother” or “Sister” from feeling that they are receiving a smaller or larger cookie than the brother or sister next to them. In Kairos, we treat all Brothers and Sisters the same.
The Key Ingredient
Prayer- Pray individually or as a family over the ingredients before and during mixing. Pray over the cookies as you drop them onto the cookie sheet and bake them. Ask God to use your cookies as a source of His love to shine on the prisoners and staff on the Kairos weekend. Pray that each cookie brings the inmate, officer, or warden who eats it closer to God. We want every person to become part of the Family of God.
Packing the Cookies
Let the cookies cool completely. This is very important. If you bag warm cookies they will form one huge hunk of cookie that it impossible to deal with. Bag the “cooled” cookies in one quart sized Zip Lock bags, in groups of exactly twelve to a bag. Please do not use the type of bags that use ‘slides’ as these can be used to jam door locks and will not be allowed in the prison. It’s recommended you freeze all the bags of cookies. This will help them stay fresh and they will not break as easily in transporting
