The Walk To Emmaus
Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him … They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?” – Luke 24:31-32 (NIV)

Do you long for spiritual renewal?

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program that thousands of people around the world have undertaken to renew their heart, mind, soul and strength. It serves the individual and returns them to their local church closer to Jesus.

The program’s approach richly models the servanthood of Jesus and encourages Christ’s disciples to act in ways appropriate to being “a servant of all.”

The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with a 72-hour retreat where you are loved and cared for by others in the Emmaus community. Over the 72–hours your are spiritually enriched by through life changing talks from by lay believers and clergy on the themes of God’s grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church.

The course is wrapped in prayer and meditation, special times of worship and daily celebration of Holy Communion. The Emmaus community, made up of those who have attended an Emmaus weekend, support the 72-hour experience with a prayer vigil, by preparing and serving meals, and other acts of love and self-giving.

The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends.

The Walk to Emmaus is designed to strengthen your faith in God and Jesus Christ. The purpose is to show you the love of Christ through the service of the community so that you may develop into a Christian leader within your home, church, and work life.

All Walk to Emmaus participants, called pilgrims, must have a sponsor that has also participated in a Walk to Emmaus.  Your sponsor will provide you with information about the event. Your sponsor will have you complete an application for a Walk to Emmaus and then submit it to the Emmaus registrar.

There is someone from our Big Country Emmaus community in almost every church in Abilene. However, if you don't know of someone that can sponsor you please feel free to contact one of our board members. We welcome Christians from all walks of life, all denominations, all races, all who love Jesus and want to have a deeper love for Him. Yes!!
